Fed leaves key interest rate unchanged

In a joint statement, Chairman Ben Bernanke and the other members of the Federal Reserve noted "Household spending appears to be expanding at a moderate rate, though it remains constrained by a weak labor market, modest income growth, lower housing wealth, and tight credit.<br /><br />"The Federal Reserve has decided to hold interest rates at a record low and pledged to keep them there for an "extended period" to keep the recovery going and drive down double-digit unemployment.
