Layoffs--Bad When You're Fired, Worse When You're Not?

No question getting laid off is bad and generally worse than not. But often for those who aren't fired (especially in companies with more firings feared), things are far from great -- in fact the stresses and challenges can sometimes be unexpectedly debilitating.
