Unfortunately, this activity has been going on for years. Having managed PPC spending for a large company, I saw the amount of clickfraud firsthand. I also suspected that some of our competitors were paying people to sit there and click on our ads through a proxy server. Current technology hasn't caught up with the techniques that are being used for this type of fraud.
