Career change advice to be self-employed?

DaniWeb IT Discussion Community - IT Careers and Business  Wed, 10/19/2011 - 08:36

This is great that so many folks respond so honestly and clearly to posts from clueless people like me. So, thanks in advance for setting me straight.

I'm in my 40's and looking for a career change.

I've always had an interest in tech, but real-world experience is fairly slim -- got A's in Fortran & Pascal classes in colleges back in the late 80's.

I'm betting things have changed a bit since then???

Hello everyone,

Career change from scratch

DaniWeb IT Discussion Community - IT Careers and Business  Tue, 08/17/2010 - 04:20

Hi there, I recently joined daniweb and I am reading through as many posts as possible at the moment. I thought it worth posting though as I haven't quite found anything that exactly describes my situation so far.

I am currently a financial advisor, have been for 8 years.

I use computers a lot and have a better understanding of them than most but only from a practical perspective I.

Terms of dealing with my home network and what I can do at work - so pretty basic. I qualified to degree level in biology, with maths and chemistry at a level.

Would like some advice please

Hello to all. I am new to this site and have some questions. I am hoping somebody can steer me in some direction.

So I have a BA in an unrelated field and am completely burnt out in my field.

I have always been electronically inclined, from installing car stereos as a kid to taking apart my computers/laptops just to know how to do it.

If it can be taken apart, I will most likely disassemble it and troubleshoot it. I used to find broken pc's and build new ones out of the spare parts to give to people who could afford pc's.
