Precious metals dropped for the week, as did stocks. London silver, gold and platinum fell 9.5 percent, 0.6 percent, and 3.4 percent respectively.

The Dow declined 5.0 percent, the S&P lost 6.2 percent, and the Nasdaq dropped 7.9 percent from last Friday's close.

New York December crude-oil settled to $57.05 a barrel, losing $1.30 on Friday.

The good news for consumers is the average price for unleaded gasoline fell to $2.15 a gallon - a far cry from its $3.13 average just a month ago, according to AAA.

Precious metals continued their declines on Wednesday as the U.S. dollar gained and crude-oil dropped by more than 5 percent - its lowest level since January 2007.

Oil drops below $100, won't be passed along to consumers

Crude oil on the futures market briefly sank below the $100-a-barrel mark for the first time since April 2.

The fact that U.S. fuel demand is so weak right now might mean the recent surge in the wholesale price of gasoline—which rose to about $4.85 a gallon in the Gulf Coast market Friday—might not be passed along to consumers.

As the U.S. dollar climbed, stocks and crude oil declined. For the week, the Dow lost 2.8 percent and the Nasdaq 4.7 percent.
