Nanotechnology: A brave new world requires bold new research app...

(U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) To ensure nanotechnology is developed in a responsible manner, the National Science Foundation and EPA awarded $38 million to establish two Centers for the Environmental Implications of Nanotechnology.

EPA contributed $5 million to the overall award, which is the largest award for nanotechnology research in the agency's history.

The new centers will conduct research on the possible environmental, health and safety impacts of nanomaterials, using very different approaches than previous studies.

Scientists at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies in Millbrook, NY recently received $750,000 in grant funding from the US Environmental Protection Agency to help safeguard human health by gaining a better understanding of the Lyme disease life cycle.

Ecosystem services are the benefits people obtain from ecosystems.


 

Feds fine homebuilders for water pollution
