(North Carolina State University) When it comes to finding a job, who you know is as important as what you know.

Work experience generally helps people foster the kinds of personal contacts that can lead someone to new career opportunities, but a study from North Carolina State University shows that this is really only true for men.

The study finds that work experience doesn't improve women's chances of finding a job through social contacts.

Programmer jobs listed on sites like monster or careerbuilder......

DaniWeb IT Discussion Community - IT Careers and Business  Mon, 05/24/2010 - 18:31

Why are they always listed through some sort of other recruiting company? I feel weird sending my resume out to some mystery company that I have no idea who it is or what they do.

I enjoy working at medium sized companies that do client-server applications, but I feel like the jobs I find listed on these sites are so vague about what they do and who they are, I have no idea what I'm applying for.

Is this how most people find jobs? I know finding a job can be tough, but do other programmers not really care what they work on and will just accept any job that they can get?

Hello all-

I am new here and to IT itself. I have a Bachelor of Music degree. Currently, a music career is not panning out for me the way I'd like.

I have a great interest in computer language; so recently I have decided that I would like to be employed in an IT related field.

The field that interests me the most is Security.
Sorry if I sound totally oblivious, but where do I begin?

Do I go to a school? If so, where and for how long? Do I go for certifications? If so, which ones? I keep reading people posting

Could really use some wise words from experienced professionals

My background: I have a bachelors in math, then I taught for a few years, didn't like it, and decided to go into software development (i took a few classes in college, and continued teaching myself for the past few years, and I really enjoy it.) I have met several people who weren't that smart who were in software development and didn't have degrees in CS.

So, I thought 'hey if they can do this, i surely can.' I tried to do the same - quit my job, got java certified (no problem w/ that).

And after 8 months of looking for a job, I got absolutely nowhere.
