For Google CEO Eric Schmidt, the next step in technology is the same that it has always been augmenting humanity to handle information that a human brain couldnt otherwise keep up with, and just make things work.
Computers will clearly handle the things we arent good at, and we will handle the things computers clearly arent good at, Schmidt said.
That can range from helping users find their way to a new restaurant to managing their inbox. And there are a great number of things that humans arent good at including driving, Schmidt said.

The great thing about modern technology is that it makes our lives easier, well, most of our lives that is.
For some, it would seem, technology just adds another layer of confusion into the whole living their life thing.
Take the many cases of people apparently having to do exactly what their satellite navigation system tells them, without giving any thought to what that might actually be.

So, did anybody hear tonight's mysterious southeast Portland explosion?
Apparently a lot of people, like my Portland friend, did.
("Tonight" was Sunday.)
What's interesting is how they used Internet tools to track down the location. As described in an article in the New York Times, people immediately started using Twitter to send did-you-hear-that messages, and within five minutes had agreed to use the hashtag #pdxboom for messages about the phenomenon.

In what's becoming a regular product cycle, Google announced today the new features that Santa-tracking kids of all ages could expect starting on Christmas Eve at 2 am EST: primarily, support for the Google Earth plug-in, meaning that users will be able to watch Santa from within a browser rather than having to run the Google Earth software.

Only about 1 1/2 weeks after Google announced a new "promotion" using QR codes for its ed "Place Pages for Google Maps ," which is a Yelp rival, it appears the company has decided if it can't beat 'em, buy 'em.
It now appears that Google is in acquisition discussions with Yelp.

Thinking of looking for a flu shot while you're out shopping this weekend but don't know where to look?
There's an app (Google Maps) for that.
Type in a location and it will show you locations in the area that offer flu shots, as well as their times -- and it will differentiate between seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccines, in case you need one and not the other.
