Verizon announced that on June 16, 2011, it will be adding 21 new markets to its LTE coverage, as well as expanding coverage in some already existing areas.

It launched its LTE service, sans handsets, in December of 2010, to 39 major metropolitan marketplaces.

Recently, Sprint and Google teamed up for tight integration between Sprint handsets and Google Voice. While this was seen as a great idea, perhaps it's not such a great deal if you take into account the gotcha.

Plan for it if you live in New York City or Washington, D.C.: on Tuesday, federal officials announced that some cellphone users in New York and Washington will soon be able to receive alerts delivered to their handsets in the event of a national or regional emergency, as part of the Personal Localized Alerting Network (PLAN).

Both Google and Apple track users, no matter what they might say, but at least the data is anonymized. Not so with the data that carriers have on you.

Verizon's 4G LTE network launches today, Dec. 5, 2010. Of course, for now, aside from being limited in the number of locations Verizon will support, it's only available for laptop data cards, and only for Windows-based PCs, to boot.
