Roche Holding AG is offering $5.7 billion in cash to buy U.S. gene sequencing company Illumina Inc in an unfriendly takeover bid that marks a major play by the Swiss drugmaker into the gene technology field.

Waste Services Inc. (NASDAQ: WSII) 24% HIGHER; reports Q3 EPS of $0.15, 4 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.11.

Revenue for the quarter was $112.46 million, which compares to the estimate of $112.10 million. Apollo Group (NASDAQ: APOL) 17.7% LOWER; reports Q4 EPS of $1.02, 2 cents better than the analyst estimate of $1.04.

Revenue for the quarter was $1.08 billion, which compares to the estimate of $1.03 billion. Announces SEC probe into revenue recognition.
