Stock indexes are edging lower in midday trading Thursday, a day after the market had its biggest gain in two and a half years. Bank stocks and energy companies fell the most.

It appears Wall Street’s current winning streak will end at three days. Stocks have danced in and out of positive territory for most of the morning, but turned negative in midday trading.

Stocks remained in positive territory in midday trading Friday, putting the markets on track for a five-day rally despite concerns about the European financial crisis.
