Thanks to new firmware (v.1.3) released last Thursday, Dell's Lifecycle Controller now works with system management tools from BMC and Microsoft.

Most reports that followed Dell's Thursday announcement focused on the speed and capacity of its EqualLogic storage arrays, not on the software used to manage them.

While improvements to 10Gb (from 1Gb) and 768TB (from 540TB) are significant, the real news in my humble opinion was again in the software.

Our target:
* Rip Blu-ray to PC hard drive, HDD and crack Blu-ray encryption.
* Convert Bluray movies to DivX, DVD, ISO, AVI, MP4, MPEG, FLV, WMV, M2ts, MOV, VOB, Rm, 3GP, XviD, MPG, ASF and more video formats for iPod, iPhone, PSP, Zune, PS3, iRiver, Archos, Creative Zen, Pocket PC, Blackberry and other portable media players, mobile phones.

* Extract audio from Blu-ray disc and save as MP3, WAV, AAC, M4a, WMA, etc.
* Copy Blu-ray disc as a backup.
