WASHINGTON (Press Release – Dec. 8, 2011) – The International Franchise Association today released new research on minority-owned, female-owned and joint female/male-owned franchise businesses.

The report, Franchised Business Ownership, 2007: Minority and Gender Groups, prepared by the IFA Educational Foundation (IFAEF) and based on the U.S.

Census Bureau’s 2007 Survey of Business Owners, shows minority and joint ownership (female/male) of franchise businesses increased from 2002 to 2007, while female ownership declined.

Washington (PRESS RELEASE – June 17, 2011) - More than half (51.6 percent) of all businesses that responded to the 2007 Survey of Business Owners (SBO) were operated primarily from someone’s home in 2007, according to new data from the U.S.

Census Bureau released recently. Only 6.9 percent of these home-based businesses had $250,000 or more in receipts, while 57.1 percent of home-based businesses brought in less than $25,000.

About 23.8 percent of employer respondent businesses and 62.9 percent of nonemployer respondent businesses were home-based.

New York (PRESS RELEASE – April 5, 2011) – According to the latest U.S. Census data, women start businesses at 1.5 times the national rate, and are now estimated to own just over 8.1 million enterprises.

These companies generate nearly $1.3 trillion in revenues and employ 7.7 million Americans. These findings are drawn from 2010 U.S.

Census Bureau data and outlined in The American Express OPEN State of Women-Owned Businesses Report.

Back in March, Google launched a Google Labs experiment called Public Data Explorer.

In the time since its launch, the company has used it to visualize data from the Census Bureau, Energy Information Administration, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and Bureau of Economic Analysis. 

(PRESS RELEASE – July 15, 2010) – The number of minority-owned businesses increased by 45.6 percent to 5.8 million between 2002 and 2007, more than twice the national rate of all U.S. businesses, according to the U.S.

Census Bureau. In addition, the number of women-owned businesses increased 20.1 percent during the same period.

The total number of U.S. businesses increased between 2002 and 2007 by 18.0 percent to 27.1 million.
