10 Midwest Companies Named Clean Energy Challenge Finalists

Chicago (Press Release – January 12, 2011) – The Clean Energy Trust today announced 10 finalists will compete March 1 for a $100,000 grand prize at the second annual Clean Energy Challenge in Chicago.

The finalists come from six Midwest states and represent a broad range of technologies in the clean energy sector, including biofuels, renewable energy, energy efficiency and carbon containment.

Nine venture-backed companies went public in the first quarter of 2010, raising $936 million, more than double the amount raised during the fourth quarter of 2009, according to data from Thomson Reuters.

But to really get a sense of the improvement, look back to the first quarter of 2009, when not a single VC-backed company went public.
